What is Hand Deburring?

Hand deburring (sometimes referred to as ′′manual deburring′′) is one of the most common methods utilized when finishing metal and plastic products, usually performed by applying a hand-held deburring tool against a fixed or hand-held part. These tools are available in a wide variety of configurations, including knives, blades, scrapers, countersinks, files, brushes and rotary burs.

Important Parameters in Choosing the Proper Hand Deburring Tool

  • Material and geometry of the part
  • Size and nature of the chips (ex. spiral or powder)
  • Location of the burr and how difficult it is to reach
  • Length and location of the edge to be deburred
  • Number of work pieces being deburred

Deburring with blades and scrapers specially designed for the particular application will allow for the fast deburring of holes, close and far edges, internal and external surfaces, slots, corners and the edges of a sheet.

Heavy Duty 3.2mm and Light duty 2.6mm Swivel blades. For fast and easy removal of burrs from Straight edge, Curved edge, Holes, Cross holes and Deep holes.
If a hole is drilled into a work piece, usually a rough edge will appear around the top of the hole. Countersinks can remove these rough ridges and put a chamfer between the hole and the surface into which the hole was drilled.
External contersinks allows the user continuous rotation for fast and accurate chamfering of external shafts.
Scrapers are used mostly in the metalworking industries, to remove irregular surface defects and high spots on previously machined parts. The scrapers remove very little material, but create a smooth surface.
Working on both sides at one stroke. Noga offers patented tools for removing burrs from Internal O-ring grooves and cleaning internal threads.
Noga ceramic blades are the best solution for many applications on plastics and soft metals. Blades are safe with extremely long life.

The composition and construction of the deburring tools are also important for maximizing the tool life and the effective deburring process itself. By considering the material being deburred and the desired tool life, an extensive choice of blades are available, each with different geometries and cutting angles. Blades are available in high speed steel (HSS), TiN-coated HSS, cobalt HSS, ceramics or tungsten carbide.
