Turning

Turning is a machining process in which a cutting tool, usually a non-rotating toolholder draws a helical line sliding along a rotating workpiece. The term "turning" usually refers to the treatment of external surfaces, and the same machining of the inner surface of the workpiece is called "boring".

Turning toolholders can be with a brazed plate, or made to replaceable inserts: external turning toolholders or internal boring bars
